Robot Delivery Service

South Korean start-up MOBINN, which specialises in self-driving robots, focuses on developing robots that can pick up deliveries and deliver them to a predefined destination. Last-mile delivery can be improved by using intelligent delivery management software that enables end-to-end visibility of delivery operations, automatic route planning, and helps centralise logistics data. Throughout the entire development process, our partners at igus® Korea maintained close contact with their research and development department and provided multiple motion solutions. We use iglidur® material for the joint area of the wheel and the hinge mechanism of the robot body for its folding movement. In addition, we use drylin® N in the transport guidance inside the robot to minimise any irregularities during delivery. This avoids vibrations, shocks and friction in the external area of the robot while reducing the overall weight of the robot.

Profile

What was needed: drylin® N and iglidur® G
Requirements: Autonomous customer deliveries via mobile robots
Industry: Robots / Food
Success for the customer: Robust, dirt-resistant and corrosion-free drylin® linear technology

Problem

The South Korean start-up company's idea was to bring deliveries from convenience stores to customers as directly as possible. There should be no spatial or time restrictions. However, in Seoul, South Korea, there are numerous obstacles for pedestrians, specifically 19 obstacles per 1km. Of course, these obstacles also pose a challenge for the self-driving robot. The company's goal was to develop a robot that could easily handle vibrations, shocks, bumps and adverse weather conditions outdoors.

Solution

To ensure that the self-driving robot remains reliable even under adverse weather conditions and the numerous obstacles in Seoul, the South Korean start-up company relies on products from igus®. iglidur® G is used for the joint area of the wheel and the folding mechanism of the robot body during movement. In addition, the drylin® N are easily adjustable and enable precise positioning through defined displacement forces. This means that the delivery package in the robot moves out smoothly. The drylin® N profile guides are particularly suitable for applications in tight installation spaces as they are extremely space-saving and have a flat design. Above all, it is extremely light because it is made of aluminium and plastic. This fits perfectly into the design of the self-driving robot. In addition, the drylin® N profile guides are easily adjustable and enable precise positioning through defined displacement forces. This means that the delivery package in the robot moves out smoothly. When developing the self-driving robot for food delivery, the focus was on a simple autonomous driving function that confidently manages any obstacle and any weather conditions. Our drylin® N products are not just lubrication-free and maintenance-free. Moreover, they are available for 24/7 delivery.
