iglidur® H is a fibre-reinforced thermoplastic material that was specially developed for applications in high humidity or under water. Bearings made of iglidur® H can be used completely lubrication-free; when used in wet areas, the surrounding medium serves as an additional lubricant.

Mechanical specification
The maximum recommended surface pressure represents a mechanical material parameter. Conclusions about the tribology cannot be drawn from it. the compressive strength of iglidur® H plain bearings decreases with increasing temperatures. diagram. 02 illustrates this correlation.

diagram.03 shows the elastic deformation of iglidur® H under radial load. Under the maximum recommended surface pressure of 90 MPa, the deformation is around 2.5 %.

Permissible sliding speeds
The maximum permissible surface speed depends on whether the temperature at the bearing point does not rise too much. iglidur® In dry operation, H is suitable for maximum sliding speeds of 1 m/s (rotating) or 4 m/s (linear). Linear movements allow higher sliding speeds, as a larger area of the shaft contributes to cooling.

Temperatures
The compressive strength of iglidur® H plain bearings decreases with increasing temperatures. diagram. 02 illustrates this correlation.

The temperatures prevailing in the bearing system also have an influence on bearing wear. Additional protection is required at temperatures higher than +120 °C.

Friction and wear
The coefficient of friction changes with increasing load, as does the wear resistance.
Interestingly, the coefficient of friction μ decreases slightly as the sliding speed increases while the load remains constant (see diagrams 04 and 05).

Shaft materials
Diagrams 06 and 07 show test results with different shaft materials, which were carried out with plain bearings made from iglidur® H.

Plain bearings made of iglidur® H show a clearly different behaviour in rotating and swivelling operation on different shaft materials. While shafts made of Cf53 and HR carbon steel show the best wear values in rotating applications, the 304 SS shaft, which is inferior to HR carbon steel in rotary operation, is the most suitable for swivelling movements. In contrast, hard chrome-plated shafts with iglidur® H-bearings are only advantageous for very low loads.

Chemical resistance
iglidur® H plain bearings have good resistance to chemicals. Therefore, even aggressive chemicals can act as a lubricant.

Bearings made from iglidur® H are not resistant to hot, oxidising acids.

Radioactive radiation
iglidur® H withstands both neutron and gamma particle radiation without any noticeable loss of its excellent mechanical specification. Bearings made from iglidur® H are radiation-resistant up to a radiation intensity of 2 x 10² Gy.

Moisture absorption
The moisture absorption of iglidur® H bearings is less than 0.1 % in a normal climate. The saturation limit in water is 0.3 %. iglidur® H does not swell and is therefore very well suited for use in wet environments.

Installation tolerances
iglidur® H bearings are standard bearings for shafts with tolerance (recommended minimum h9). The bearings are designed to be pressed into an H7-toleranced mounting; after installation in a mounting with nominal dimensions, the inner diameter of the bearing with F10 tolerance adjusts itself. For certain dimensions, the tolerance deviates from this depending on the wall thickness (see product range).
