Learn what makes a successful DNV certification with this free white paper
Like all other sectors, the maritime industry has to face the challenges posed by automation and digitalisation. Whether in navigation, shipping companies or in the offshore industry with oil and gas, the analogue world is almost a thing of the past – digital systems are establishing themselves and laying the foundation for automation concepts. Complex solutions transform ships into autonomous factories, pave the way for shipping companies to become fully-fledged logistics providers and support the offshore industry in harvesting the oil and gas fields more efficiently through automated production processes. In all areas, the higher the degree of automation and optimisation of these systems, the more cost-effective, sustainable and secure the business operations of companies will be.
In order for automation to succeed under these harsh environmental conditions, components and parts have to meet different requirements to those in conventional factory automation. This white paper presents the challenges faced by companies and suppliers alike. The article describes how companies meet the strict test criteria for having components certified by competent institutions such as DNV. The white paper also provides an outlook on the opportunities that arise for suppliers, plant constructors and ultimately operators of drilling platforms and ships through the use of certified components, such as cables.
chainflex cables: 4-year guarantee & free price check
The oceans have long been part of the global economy by way of wind farms and worldwide cargo traffic. Companies working for and in the maritime environment have to face special challenges: In addition to the Machinery Directive or the Product Safety Act, which also apply onshore, they are often bound by the contents of the Maritime Tasks Act or the Ship Safety Act.
In order to enable plant constructors and suppliers to smoothly implement the diverse legal requirements, contribute to efficient project planning and ultimately to ensure trouble-free operation, igus has 379 chainflex cables certified by DNV for use in maritime environments that are available from stock. These are designed for highly dynamic use in energy chains for safe operation at sea. Besides having seawater resistance, the chainflex cables also operate reliably under the effects of oil. The cables are resistant according to MUD NEK606, which enables maintenance-free pumping on drilling rigs and also stands for operator safety.
In addition to the elaborate test procedures of the DNV classification society, the cables have also been tested in the igus test laboratory under real conditions. They therefore have the unique chainflex guarantee of 36 months. So, for every maritime application, there is an optimal solution in our product range. In the simplest case, you can get a free chainflex price check to find out which cable is the best for your individual needs at sea.
